Asagi

That was a great lunch. Definitely as good as Kondo, and less than half the price. It has only 8 seats, right in the middle of Ginza, and was definitely my “discovery” of the trip, even though it’s in THE guide. It was quite a random pick, but man it delivered. I had to choose ahead which menu I wanted, I took the most expensive one (if you go to this kind of restaurants, don’t be cheap, you will miss on the best produce and you might also complain that there’s not enough food) and it was fantastic. The chef was really nice, spoke some English and was cooking by himself with just the help of a woman (his wife?). It was a truly great experience. If you want superb tempura for a fair price, then run there!

The usual condiments, lemon, white radish that goes with soy sauce, and there should be salt somewhere

Prawn (I had 2 of them)

Squid

Some white fish (not one bone, fantastic)

Can’t remember what that was

Lotus root

Ginkgo nuts

Eggplant

Asparagus

Prawn heads (nose to tail eating, Fergus did not invent anything)

Saltwater eel

The 2 different condiments for the eel, sancho (Japanese pepper) and some crab paste

The eel with the different condiments on top

Last course - tendon, pickles and miso soup

A closer look at the miso soup

Dessert

The (tiny) room

The chef at work

I can only trust a chef wearing Prestos
